This must be my first WSDC 2014 related post. Peru, hosts of WSDC 2003 have made a bid to host WSDC 2014. WSDC 2012 will beheld in Cape Town, South Africa shortly and WSDC 2013 will be in Turkey. Peru began attending WSDC in 1993, the Peruvian Debate Association in 2002 and hosted WSDC 2003. At present, Peru appears to be the only nation bidding for 2014. We will wait to see if any other countries will ultimately submit bids for WSDC 2014.
The bid is led by Asociación Peruana de Debate (Peruvian Debate Association). The bid is supported by Universidad del Pacífico as well as Hotel El Pueblo. The proposed dates are Saturday, August 16th – Tuesday, August 26th. This is intended to “guarantees that all debates at schools and universities will count with audience”.
The Convenor is Sixto Ramos, who has attended WSDC since 1993, acted as convener of the 1st and 8th Pan American Debating Championships (2001 and 2008) as well as convener of WSDC 2003 amongst other achievements. Chief Adjudicators: Christopher Erskine (Australia) and Effie Giannakouri (Greece)
