The English Speaking Union which organizes the Public Speaking Competition for Schools and Schools Mace in England as well as the British Finals has released its new Handbook.
Whilst the information is designed for a specific format, the information included is a good starting point for those new to debating.
Announcement after the break:
The ESU has produced a new guide to the Public Speaking Competition for Schools and the Schools Mace.
The Speech and Debate Competition Handbook for Schools contains the rules of both competitions, which have been updated. It also includes a curriculum links section, a glossary of commonly used public speaking and debating terms, as well as guidelines for students, teachers, adjudicators and organisers.
Registration for both competitions opened at the end of the previous academic year and, so far, hundreds of schools from across the country have registered to compete. Registration will remain open until Friday, 30 September 2011. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the branch organisers.
The registration fee is £30, or £50 for schools that enter both the Public Speaking Competition for Schools and the Schools Mace (a £10 discount for entering both competitions).
