WSDC 2011 – Final Draw

This is part of the WSDC 2011 series as I recount and report on the World School Debating Championship 2011 in Dundee, Scotland as a debater, blogger and Wales national team member.

After much waiting, the actual draw for the 2011 World Schools Debating Championships has been releaed. This comes after the draw structure was announced along with the prepared motions.

The organizers seem to have disabled the embedding feature of their draw videos. As a result, I will direct you to the two videos. The draw has been split into two videos, the first and the second.

Message from Beth James, Co-CA

Dear all

It is with great pleasure that I hear by release the official draw for WSDC Dundee 2011. (sorry about the slight delay!)

Attached you will find the grid document and ore-tournament rankings which i circulated, in draft form, last month and the tournament head-to-head pairings for the 8 preliminary rounds.

To ensure complete fairness and transparency, the draw was filmed live in Dundee and each group recording has been edited together in order to produce two videos which you can watch here…

A significant amount of work has gone into this process and particularly the production of the draw videos so I hope you watch and enjoy them. Please particularly share the link with your team members who may not be on this mailing list

I would like to thank everyone who has helped with this process and particularly Malcolm Smart, Simon Quinn, Kenny McKeown from Dundee City Council, the pupils from the eight Dundee Primary Schools who drew each group and Euan Southcitt, my extremely forgiving housemate, for editing the videos together!

With very best wishes

Beth James
