Sing Tao 2011: Grand Final Preview

The Details of the Grand Finals are out! As kindly noted on the Sing Tao Debate website, this years Grand Final will be held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai from 5pm onwards on the 20th May 2011. In an added twist, the Grand Final will see no traditional ‘local school’ with four relatively less famous teams.

The English Grand Final will contest the motion

MTR should withdraw the Fare Adjustment Mechanism

with defending Champions South Island School defending the motion and Chinese International School on opposition.

The motion seems relatively fair and it looks set to be a good debate overall. SIS will have a considerable amount of pressure, but with 3 championships in the last 5 years thanks to an ever evolving team, they will remain the ones to beat come Friday. Neither can claim to have had the tougher draw but CIS will enter this years final with a team that has been working together for some time now, winning the Bar Association Debate Competiiton last year against SIS for the first time.

It is a truly balanced competition and without a doubt will be a closely fought debate this year.

South Tuen Mun Government Secondary School and St. Mark’s School will face off in the Chinese section, with quick fire speeches and off-the-cuff action over the motion roughly that the Government should police and deter violent political actions.
Neither school have a extensive debating history so this will be a first regardless of which team is to emerge victorius.
