Following on from the first event which was held last year, TEDxCardiff is set to return to Wales Millennium Centre this April and promises to once again challenge, provoke and inspire audiences through a range of engaging talks.
TED is an annual event that brings together the world’s leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter across a range of disciplines including technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, and development. The talks at the conference, “TEDTalks,” are then made available to watch for free on TED.com.
In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connections. The organisers of TEDxCardiff are thrilled to represent this amazing conference in Wales and as the 2010 event sold out faster than any previous event at Wales Millennium Centre’s Weston Studio, tickets are not expected to last long.
“We’re nervous and excited about TEDxCardiff 2011” explain organisers Neil Cocker and Claire Scantlebury. “We’ve had such amazing support from the local companies that have helped us put this event together and we’ve confirmed some world class speakers, we think it’ll all combine to make a fantastic day”.
Main sponsors for the event, the Wales Millennium Centre are equally as excited. Following the 2010 event Fiona Allan, Artistic Director commented “Wales Millennium Centre is proud to be the home of TEDxCardiff. We’re used to programming a diverse range of arts at the Centre but having Beat-boxers and Opera singers sharing the bill with inspiring speakers was a first for us. We can’t wait for them to be back with us!”
Speakers at TEDxCardiff 2011 include Alastair Reynolds – Award winning sci-fi writer, astrophysicist and former European Space Agency employee, Tori James – First Welsh woman to climb Mount Everest and Tim Robertson – Chief Exec of the Koestler Trust, promoting art in prisons (full details are available on www.tedxcardiff.co.uk).
Tickets for TEDxCardiff 2011 will go on sale at 10am on Friday 4 March and will be available to purchase from the Wales Millennium Centre Box Office on 029 2063 6464.
