WSDC 2011 – Accommodation

This is part of the WSDC 2011 series as I recount and report on the World School Debating Championship 2011 in Dundee, Scotland as a debater, blogger and Wales national team member.

Details of the accommodation for WSDC 2011 has been released by the organizers on the website at http://wsdctournament.wordpress.com/tournament/accommodation/. They have also given some indication of leasiure facilities.

Most notably, all rooms are individual rooms with free internet access. That means blogging will not be a problem!

Accommodation

The accommodation for the tournament will be in the University of Dundee student apartments, Belmont Tower and Seabraes. All bedrooms are single occupancy with ensuite and free internet access.

Accommodation will be at two locations provided for by the University of Dundee. You can check the actual location of the two residences using the UoD’s online interactive map.

Both residencies are non-smoking residencies with each bedroom providing a bed with mattress, desk, chair, wardrobe, and bookshelf. Computer points for connecting to the internet are supposedly also availible. Each flat even has it’s own fitted kitchen with cooker, hob, microwave, kettle, fridge freezer, and dining area allowing WSDC participents to cook up a few of their own meals if they so wish. The telephones are only able to be connected with emergency services. Their respective websites advise individuals to bring duvet & duvet cover, bed sheet, pillow & pillow cover amongst other things. Whether this is necessary will become clear closer to WSDC 2011 when the organizers send out specific details.

Belmont Tower – 15 self-contained flat sleeping between 6 and 8 people per flat

Seabraes – 32 self-contained flats sleeping 7 people per flat

Lesiure Facilities

The Union, operated by the Dundee University Students Association will give WSDC 2011 participants temporary memberships. WSDC will also have exclusive use of the Liar Bar within the Union for the duration of the competition.
